I had the awesome opportunity to talk with Scott Voelker on The Amazing Seller Podcast. We had a great conversation about finding your target market and how to talk to them in a way that works for them.
Have you ever woken up and realized that you hate your business? I know that seems intense, but I’ve heard it from so many entrepreneurs over the years. Suddenly, people wake up and they’re overwhelmed, they feel like they’re in the wrong business, and they’re not sure where to go from here.
So what do you do if that happens to you, and how do you make sure you don’t throw out the things you love, as well as the things you’re frustrated by?
This is how I walk my clients through this difficult situation:
Getting to what matters in your business is key to making sure you make the right decisions for your business, your family, and your life. This is talked about a lot, but most people miss how complex this issue can be. We’re not one-dimensional, and to act like there’s ONE thing we’re trying to serve is not doing us any favors.
As we look at this, it seems like people just grab onto something and go with it, but it can end up causing conflict between your business and your personal life.
So how do you figure out what REALLY matters, across the board? As yourself these three SIMPLE questions?
This is a big issue for entrepreneurs. As you’re building your brand, a lot of it comes down to people knowing you and seeking you out. When you get the core foundation of customers and clients who are returning to you because you’ve already helped them, that’s when you start to really grow.
But a lot of entrepreneurs don’t ever build that base. Why not?
It sounds like a bold promise, but there are techniques to learning anything. You can take any skill and transform from being “good” at it to being “great” at it.
This is something entrepreneurs especially will find comes in handy, because we’re put into positions where we have to master a skill - FAST - if we want our business to grow ALL the time. But it can be hard to master so many new things. It’s overwhelming, isn’t it?
The best way I’ve found to think of your skills is to consider them ASSETS. No matter what happens in a venture, the skills you gain working on that project will come with you into any other project you touch from there on out.
There are so many things we want to get done in our business and accomplish in our lives, and it can be overwhelming to think of the sheer amount that needs to happen to make any of it possible. A huge part of it is the way you’re thinking about success or how to accomplish more.
Here are three ways you can change your mindset to make crushing it in business and in your life SO much easier:
Ultimately, that’s what we want to do, right? As entrepreneurs, we have so many demands that, if we want to grow, not only do we have to do everything we’re already doing every single day, but add even MORE to our schedule
Did you know that’s actually possible? Seems crazy, right?
Once you train yourself to make these 5 techniques a part of your routine, you’re going to see some amazing changes in your business.
We get caught up thinking that we want to treat everyone the way we want to be treated, but it just doesn’t work out that way in business. You want to motivate people the way that works best for THEM, and not everyone is motivated by the same things that you are!
This can cause a lot of conflict in business if you don’t understand why someone is or isn’t motivated by something you’re doing.
There are ultimately four different emotional motivation types - and all of us have a little bit of each and every one.
There are a bunch of trainers out there trying to teach entrepreneurs how to hire an international Virtual Assistant. I get why - having a VA has absolutely transformed my business and made it possible for me to get more out of each and every day.
Unfortunately, many trainers are DEAD WRONG about some pretty HUGE elements in hiring an International VA, and these mistakes can cost entrepreneurs a TON of time, energy, and money.
Hiring your first international Virtual Assistant? You need to be sure you’re 100% ready. Not being prepared to take on an International VA is one of the BIGGEST reasons entrepreneurs have a hard time with hiring them in the first place.
Let’s cover the 5 Steps that ENSURE you hire right the first time:
As entrepreneurs, we have shiny, new softwares and applications thrown at us ALL the time. It’s overwhelming, and honestly, impossible to use them all, especially if we don’t know exactly what these programs actually DO for us.
It’s a fact: many softwares aren’t really essential to our businesses.
This is actually an extremely serious topic. This took me a long time to learn because I absolutely LOVE people, so when I look at a client, I look at so much more than them as just a means of making money. I want to truly help my clients, and I look at their business the same way I look at mine, and with the same serious scope.
I get attached and connected to my clients, which allows me to do what I do, but it can also make it really hard for me to let go of clients that aren’t really a great fit with my company, my needs, or my mission.
So many entrepreneurs get these GREAT ideas that they’re super excited about, but they wait to take action until the situation is absolutely PERFECT. They get so stressed out worrying that something won’t go “perfectly” that they never even start the project in the first place.
But the concept of perfect is made up. It’s not REAL. Perfect is your expectations of what your business should look like. Instead, focus on what would bring you forward, and what’s the best you and do RIGHT NOW. Maybe eventually you can reach that ideal “perfect,” but I can guarantee you’ll never make it if you don’t get STARTED.
This is one of the most important parts of our business. When you can take the time at the beginning of a new relationship with a potential new hire to figure out if they’re really a fit for your company, you can avoid some major pitfalls three or four months down the line.
It’s way better for your business to hire right the first time than it is to fix the mistakes later on.
If you’re an online entrepreneur, there is ALWAYS a new software out there that people tell you are going to change your business. To be honest, there ARE a lot of new softwares coming out all the time, and a lot of them WILL change your business. Unfortunately, many entrepreneurs don’t GET that benefit because they make one of these big mistakes.
So how do you ensure that you get the most out of a new software? Don’t do THIS:
As entrepreneurs grow, they eventually have to hire. Unfortunately, most of us didn’t get into the business we wanted to because we’re great managers - we did it because we love what we’re doing and we want to be in control of our own destinies.
That means, for the majority of us, we’re not focusing on the skills and elements that need to be in place when it comes down to bringing on a new teammate, which can cause a LOT of problems:
These are some of my FAVORITE programs that have allowed me to leverage more in my business across the board.
Workflowy Cost: Free
This is an advanced outline tool. I know this sounds boring, but this tool has made a huge impact on my business. At first I didn’t see the incredible value of this software, but the more I dug into it, the more I fell in LOVE with all this program can do. Workflowy works on my phone, my tablet, and my computer. It’s always connected and synced. You can share them with others in your company, too. Best of all, you can tag and search through your outlines, making it easy to find everything you need
I believe our inspiration comes from our drive to be part of something bigger, to do something better, to do something we always dreamed of and make it happen in the world. It’s an amazing feeling to get stirred up and excited about your life.
Inspiration is what gives us that push we need to make it happen!
When we hired our first Virtual Assistant Team Member, our business absolutely TRANSFORMED. Thousands of entrepreneurs and small business owners across the country are finding huge success in working with VAs from across the world. It makes it possible for you to get even MORE done in your business literally OVERNIGHT.
But hiring your first VA can be tricky - and it’s easy to slip up a little.
Here are the THREE big things I wish I had known before I brought on my first International Virtual Assistant Team Member that would have made things go A LOT more smoothly. Hopefully this helps you jump in and get the MOST out of your VA today with the LEAST work possible!
Everyone is always telling entrepreneurs that the key to success and happiness in their business is to focus on what they do best - what they LOVE to do - and that money will follow. Unfortunately, this can get us into HUGE trouble and create massive problems. Why?
Because people STOP paying attention to the other important (but maybe less exciting) parts of their businesses!
Instead, you want to leverage what you do best, get clear on what you REALLY love, and get the most out of doing them RIGHT by combining them with the other parts of your business that you may be less thrilled about.
